Harte Charter School is to educate the whole child with an emphasis on academic and personal success through the use of quality instruction, new technology, and a curriculum connected to the visual and performing arts. Our goals are to encourage life-long learning, social responsibility, and commitment to the community. Curriculum: • Louisiana Comprehensive Curriculum provides the foundation for our instruction • A Creative Learning Environment • Currently focusing in the areas of the arts and technology to aid in advanced instruction. • Directing instruction toward progressive and innovative methods which promote our students to learn in more creative ways. • We offer many enrichment courses and extracurricular activities in the visual and performing arts. Technology: • Promethean Active Board in every classroom • Active Boards are used as a powerful educational tool that allows the teacher and students to interact with lessons and activities. • Portable computer labs in grades three through eight providing a laptop computer for every student. • Power School • Service which allows parents to view their child’s progress on-line. Results: • Alice Harte receive highest valued added score possible (5) in academic year 2007-2008. • A score of a five means students significant academic growth in one year. The Faculty: • The teachers at Alice Harte Charter participate in the Teacher Advancement Program (TAP) which is designed to improve student achievement through quality instruction. Our teachers work with master and mentor teachers to strengthen every aspect of instruction from planning to assessment. • Our faculty and staff also participate in on-going professional development in which we continue to broaden our techniques and strategies in creative and cooperative learning. • Due the work we have done, our school has shown the maximum amount of growth based on standardized testing, individual student growth and teacher performance.
