Location:

We are located at 800 DeArmas Street, New Orleans, Louisiana.  The community values this school because it has always been a central area of gathering.  McDonogh # 32 Literacy Charter School has a tradition that welcomes all families to participate in its growth.  What makes this school important to this community is its’ connection to the outstanding leaders of Algiers that it has produced. Alumni are glad to say that they have attending McDonogh # 32.

At McDonogh # 32 Literacy Charter School, we strive to meet the academic needs of our students through a carefully designed curriculum, because we believe a good education should produce a well-rounded person, we provide for the social, personal and psychological needs of our students.  We stand firm in our belief that in assuming the responsibility of fostering literate, moral, and contributing citizens we will make our world better.

Description:

McDonogh # 32 Literacy Charter School was established in 2006 to meet the challenges and needs of this Algiers Community and enrollment is approximately 510 in total.

Faculty:

All of our teachers hold a BA or BS degree or higher.  Teachers are state-certified or working on state-certification.  All of our teachers and para-educators participate in the nationally recognized Teacher Advancement Program (TAP).  Our average class size is twenty to twenty-five students each.

Ancillary Services:

We have a full time Nurse, 2 Social Workers, School Counselor, Speech Pathologist, Physical Therapist, and Occupational Therapist.

Curriculum:

McDonogh # 32 Literacy Charter School follows the Louisiana Comprehensive Curriculum and our classes are aligned with our state’s Grade Level Expectations as a guide to determining the best strategies for the academic success of each student.  In addition, our professional staff has a strong commitment to incorporating technology as a tool of enrichment for our students.  Foreign language, cultural arts, music, computer technology, and library resources are offered as exploratory electives.

Special accommodations such as a 504 plan are offered to regular education students as needed.  A part-time gifted teacher is available to service those students identified as gifted.
