The Algiers Charter School Association is accepting applications for a vacancy on its board of trustees.
The vacancy has arisen because board member Calvin Turner Jr. resigned his seat in a letter last week to ACSA's board, citing personal and professional obligations.
Turner's resignation is effective Friday. ACSA will begin taking applications Saturday.
The application form is available at the association's Web site, www.algierscharterschools.org. Applications should be mailed to ACSA to the attention of David Grubb, 4480 Gen. de Gaulle Drive, Suite 200, New Orleans, LA 70131. Applications will be accepted until Sept. 27.
Turner could not be reached for comment, but an ACSA press release said he told the board in his resignation letter that personal and professional obligations hampered his ability to dedicate the needed attention to the association. Turner, a Whitney National Bank vice president, was chosen for the board in December 2005. His term was to last for three years with the possibility of serving another three-year term. He is a lifelong resident of Algiers.
