ACSA NAMES DIRECTOR OF HUMAN RESOURCES
Also adds two to finance departments

New Orleans, La. – The Algiers Charter Schools Association has named Dorothy F. Smith as its Director of Human Resources. Ms. Smith comes to the ACSA with over twenty years of human resources experience in major corporations including HP, Nabisco, Bristol-Myers Squibb and American Airlines. A native of Milwaukee, Wisconsin she is a graduate of Rosary College and received her Masters in Industrial and Organizational Psychology from Golden Gate University. Ms. Smith’s human resources experience spans the breadth of the field including recruiting, training and development, general human resources, HRIS and consulting. In addition to her professional work, she has been a devoted volunteer and board member in several organizations. Dorothy moved to New Orleans from San Francisco in early 2005 and has been active in the city’s recovery from Hurricane Katrina.

“I see the ACSA as an organization on the rise, and I want to be a part of that,” said Ms. Smith. “I see my role as helping to recruit and retain the best teachers and staff possible, and create an environment that allows our employees to do what they do best.”

In addition to the hiring of Ms. Smith, the ACSA added a Controller and a Financial Analyst to its executive team, with the naming of Stuart Gay and David Morey respectively.

Stuart Gay is a native of Algiers who is a graduate of the University of New Orleans. Mr. Gay has served on the Board of Directors of Woodlands Trail and Park, as well as working with the Treasure Chest Casino as an Operations Auditor and as a Senior Financial Analyst. Stuart Gay is an active member of the Algiers community, as a member of the Kiwanis Club of Algiers – Morning Edition. He has a wife, Angela and a 10 year old son, Hunter.

David Morey comes to the Algiers Charter Schools Association having spent most of the past 32 years with local CPA firms in the auditing and consulting departments. For the past 25 years, Mr. Morey has focused primarily on governmental and not-for-profit entities performing financial audits, grant compliance audits, budget analyses, revenue and expense projections and forecasts, operational evaluations, preparations of accounting, and many other tasks. With the ACSA he will focus primarily on implementation and maintenance of the computerized accounting system, federal income reporting, monitoring of Student Activity funds, assisting independent auditors, and the preparation of financial reports for the Board as well as federal, state, and local officials.
