New Orleans, La – Yesterday the Algiers Charter Schools Association opened seven of eight charter schools to over 3100 students. The day kicked off with a press conference at Fischer Charter Elementary and a tour of the schools for the ACSA Board of Trustees, local elected officials and their representatives.

“We were extremely happy about our first day”, said Dr. Brian Riedlinger, CEO of the ACSA, “What we have done is change the culture of about when school starts and what our expectations are for students, parents, and teachers. This could really be the start of something great in New Orleans.”

The only school that did not open yesterday was McDonogh 32 elementary. Due to storm damage it is not scheduled to begin classes until September 18th. Students at McDonogh 32 will have extended days into the spring to make up for lost time.
